Upon further investigation, nearly everything is what you would expect to find at a normal day care, albeit one devoid of any sort of child-like joy. But the environment itself isn’t the only thing that makes a game creepy, so maybe there are hidden things in the room that will better serve to frighten you? If you go into it knowing it was a normal day care facility, then you might not feel as disappointed as I did. That is not what you discover when you walk into the room. This game is sold as a creepy experience, and the story lends to that as well, so you, like me, may be expecting a somewhat scary setting. Let’s get something out of the way upfront. Regardless, spirits aren’t going to exorcise themselves, so we have work to do! A little more depth would have been nice to know what we were getting ourselves into, and what kind of spirit we were looking for. The story does give you a good sense of why you are there, but it does not give any indication of why you were called in the first place except that there is a lingering spirit. Lesson learned: always bring your equipment with you when investigating potentially haunted places. Find your way out by clearing the lingering spirit inside. You enter the facility without any of your equipment for an initial screening, then suddenly… BOOM! The door locks shut behind you, and it would not budge! Your only option is to put your brain together to survive. There are several lists of sight words that are commonly used – Dolch, Fry, Top 150, and Core Curriculum. There are many ways you can achieve this but the most common ways are by using flashcards and word-focused games. The best way to learn sight words and increase a child’s familiarity with them is through repetition. By memorizing these common words by sight children will be able to read easier and faster. Learning sight words allows children to recognize words at a glance without needing to stop and sound out each individual word, letter by letter. They are sometimes referred to as “high-frequency words” because the list is comprised of the most common words that kids will encounter in each stage of reading. You can download the cards for FREE HERE.Sight words are widely used as a tool to help kids when they are learning to read and write. They are a FREE download! These can be used on a word wall, flash cards, memory game (print 2 sets), Read the Room, Musical Words (see math examples here), ….so many ways to use them! Lastly, I wanted to share these PrePrimer word cards with y’all. You can find the PrePrimer Sight Word Readers HERE. Also, I like to laminate them so that we can use them for years to come! These could definitely be sent home as a homework reader. We read it daily during our school time and then I also have him read it one time at night. These include the same sentences as the ones inside the Interactive Books. Something else we do each day is read this Sight Word Reader. You can find the PrePrimer Interactive books HERE. The sentences also only include sight words from the PrePrimer list. I really wanted to make sure that these sentences were ones that were developmentally appropriate for prek/kinder/or lower level 1st grade. Also, each sentence uses a decodable cvc word. Each sentence uses the sight word in context. They are all the sight word used in the book, just in different fonts/sizes.īuild It incorporates several skills: spelling, cutting, gluing, and fine motor. Match It: Students are practicing visual discrimination by identifying the match to the sight word. This is also great for incorporating visual scanning which is a developmental skill that we are working on. Also, we look for any other words we have learned previously. We practice reading and identifying the word for the week. Some of the sight word books include shapes, number identification and formation, counting, and different representations of subitizing. I love this Repeat It page because students are getting fluency practice plus math practice. Because I am doing preschool at home with his this year, I try to integrate as many different skills within 1 activity as I can. To be honest I wouldn’t wish the task of making films in this country on my worst enemy. I was grateful to see this with my own 16-year-old son Quinn, who was familiar with the book, and I think I can safely say we both thought the film was good, not great. Long’s performance as a spunky Vietnamese kid and budding cricket champion seemed so authentic in amongst characters that I am more than familiar with, having grown up on a diet of Anglo productions in this country. The performances from the entire cast are excellent, but I have to say my absolute favourite character was Jeffrey. I wonder if a miniseries may have given the idea more justice? I can say that the revelation of key details felt obvious and easily presumed – perhaps a consequence of the story’s intended audience of high school students. Having not read the widely praised book I am unable to compare how the film brings this acclaimed text to life. Like most coming-of-age tales (Stranger Things, Stand By Me) Charlie has nobody he can turn to and share these insights with, without betraying the trust of Jasper Jones, who, being Aboriginal is most likely to cop the blame for Laura’s death. There are an AWFUL lot of ideas flying around in this story, including race relations, but the chief narrative is the missing young woman and the audience’s awareness that Charlie has many of the answers but won’t or can’t speak up. There is an air of English stiff upper lip that pervades all behaviour amongst the population, who are coming to grips with the idea of a man on the moon and an ongoing war in Vietnam claiming precious lives of the young male population. The year is 1969, and this remote town in Western Australia has yet to catch up with the rest of the world kicking up its heels celebrating the “Swinging Sixties”. Combined with the fact that the townspeople call him “Mad” Jack… Jasper Jones – Photograph by David Dare Parker Jasper is certain that Mad Jack Lionel (Hugo Weaving) is behind the grisly death, but it seems pretty clear that this is a touch too convenient given how Jacks’ bedraggled appearance and ramshackle abode would paint him as an obvious candidate. Throughout the film, Charlie accumulates evidence that would seem to implicate him in the disappearance of Laura and he has ample opportunities to offer assistance or helpful information in the search for her. The other daughter – the younger Eliza (Angouri Rice who lit up the screen in both The Nice Guys and These Final Hours) is Charlie’s age, 14, and, when it becomes evident her sister is missing, Charlie fails in his first opportunity to tell Eliza he knows something. Jasper begs Charlie to help him, insisting the body has nothing to do with him, despite both young men knowing the victim – Laura Wishart (Nandalie Campbell Killick), one of two daughters of the local Shire President – Pete Wishart (Myles Pollard). There, swinging from a branch is the body of a young woman. Charlie removes several glass window slats and slides out into the garden where Jasper leads the apprehensive Charlie to his camp beside a billabong. It is a conversation they return to later in the film, but Charlie’s preference for Batman seems fitting when he receives a visitor to his window later that night.Ī figure appears outside his window and when Charlie opens the glass slats to see who it is, we see a face framed so that we can only see eyes, just like Batman’s mask. The biggest challenge was in determining the visually best way to make the VE’s bodywork match it. Designing and constructing a new race-only floor-pan with a 93mm shorter wheelbase was straightforward. The rules mandated a shared wheelbase of 2822mm for Falcon and Commodore, but the VE’s 'Zeta' floor-pan exceeded that figure by 93mm. What comes next will depend on how effectively Penzone manages to tackle the backlog. Warshaw will now have authority to direct policy in the bureau, audit investigations, and reverse decisions in investigations if necessary. In his order, Snow also gave Warshaw new oversight ability over the Professional Standards Bureau. That could mean fines of hundreds of thousands of dollars in just the first few months should the sheriff's office fail to comply. In October, Snow proposed that the fine be five times the cost for one sergeant. And the fine is hefty: it will be equal to three times the annual salary and cost to recruit and train one sergeant with Professional Standards Bureau. If vacancies remain despite the order, the county will be forced to pay a monthly fine into a staffing fund for the internal affairs unit. Once they are filled, Penzone isn't allowed to let the number of investigators fall below 26, according to the contempt citation. The office now has 60 days to hire seven new investigators to fill positions that have remained vacant for years, despite being funded in the department's budget. In the judge's contempt finding, he outlined a series of new mandates that Penzone must follow - or face significant penalties. "Each of its investigators, on average, completes 17 investigations a year." From 2016 through 2021, MCSO maintained the same number of investigators - 26 - despite claims that it was increasing staffing. "MCSO now has 2,137 pending investigations," Snow wrote in the contempt finding. Large-scale cases involving sworn personnel - such as sheriff's deputies - take an average of more than 800 days. Misconduct investigations in MCSO take an average of 611 days to be completed. One of those is that the agency's internal affairs division, the Professional Standards Bureau, must conduct timely and thorough investigations of complaints of misconduct by sheriff's office employees.īut the division, which has been understaffed for years, has not been doing so. Now, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is under the watchful eye of a court-appointed monitor, Robert Warshaw, and must comply with a host of court-ordered mandates. Arpaio was ultimately pardoned by former President Donald Trump. It began as a class-action challenge to the agency's widespread racial profiling practices - leading to Arpaio's 2017 criminal contempt conviction. Arpaio, dates back to 2007, when Arpaio was sheriff. We will continue to move forward," Penzone added. "Public safety remains my top priority while continuing to come into compliance with the court's requirements. "Our investigations are consistently found to be high quality, imposing appropriate discipline." But the volume of cases was simply "overwhelming," he added. "My office is currently in compliance with 92% of the order that focuses on internal investigations," Penzone wrote in a statement about the contempt citation. Penzone said he understood Snow's decision but disagreed with it. The ACLU has worked on the lawsuit for more than a decade. “The time for excuses has run out - Sheriff Penzone has had over six years to fix the problems that continue to plague this agency and prove to the court and our clients that he is dedicated to rebuilding trust in the Latino community," Christine Wee, senior attorney with the Arizona branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a prepared statement. If Penzone fails to address the concerns in the contempt finding, the county could face significant fines. "He leaves the court with few options for obtaining compliance with its orders." "The backlog, despite Sheriff Penzone's knowledge of it, only gets worse," Snow wrote. District Court Judge Murray Snow filed the contempt order on Tuesday, finding that Penzone had "not taken all reasonable steps" to address a severe backlog of internal investigations into complaints of misconduct. A federal judge has held Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone in contempt of court in a case that dates back to the reign of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Once everything has been added, it’s time to test out your new automatic ice fishing jigger! You can use any type of line or bait that you prefer but make sure that it’s appropriate for the type of fish you are Targeting. Once everything is assembled, it’s time to add line and bait. Make sure that all parts are securely attached before continuing. This will allow it to spin freely when in use and will help ensure that you get consistent results when using your jigger. The next step is to attach the motorized spool onto the bottom of the rod. Be sure to check that everything is securely attached before continuing. This can be done by using screws or clamps to secure them together so they won’t move around when in use. Once you have all of your materials gathered together, it’s time to attach the reel and rod. If you are feeling adventurous, you can also add some other features such as lights or sensors to make your jigger even more effective. You will need a fishing reel, rod, motorized spool, line, and bait. The first step in making your own ice fishing jigger is to gather the necessary materials. The Stack Overflow tradition is that community members post a variety of answers to any given coding question, debate the advantages and tradeoffs, and vote to recognize the best solution. (Update: In a blog post, Stack Overflow CEO Prashanth Chandrasekar discusses how his team plans to combine the best of community and generative AI technologies going forward.) Meanwhile, Stack Overflow announced a temporary ban on posting ChatGPT content to its site – considered a violation of community standards because, according to the site’s management, ChatGPT’s answers to coding questions are too often incorrect. The comparisons with Stack Overflow and predictions that ChatGPT would “kill” Stack Overflow started immediately. Soon after the introduction of ChatGPT, developers discovered that one of the things it was useful for was producing detailed code samples and complete functions – with accompanying tutorial content explaining why the code works – in response to a simple text prompt. Visits to the GitHub CoPilot free trial signup page more than tripled from February to March, topping 800,000.That doesn’t reflect all the usage of CoPilot, which normally takes place within an editor like Visual Studio Code, but it would include people coming to the website to get a subscription to the service. The GitHub website has also been seeing strong growth, with traffic to up 26.4% year-over-year in March to 524 million visits. It attracted 1.6 billion visits in March and another 920.7 million in the first half of April. ChatGPT doesn’t have a year-over-year track record, having only launched at the end of November, but its website ( ) has become one of the world’s hottest digital properties in that short time, bigger than Microsoft’s Bing search engine for worldwide traffic. On a year-over-year basis, traffic to Stack Overflow () has been down by an average of 6% every month since January 2022 and was down 13.9% in March.CoPilot now incorporates the latest GPT-4 version of OpenAI’s platform. A plugin to the widely used Microsoft Visual Studio Code allows developers to have CoPilot write entire functions on their behalf, rather than going to Stack Overflow in search of something to copy and paste. CoPilot is built on top of the same OpenAI large language model as ChatGPT, capable of processing both human language and programming language. That may be in part because of a related development, the introduction of the CoPilot coding assistant from Microsoft’s GitHub business. While traffic to OpenAI’s ChatGPT has been growing exponentially, Stack Overflow has been experiencing a steady decline – losing some of its standings as the go-to source developers turn to for answers to coding challenges.Īctually, traffic to Stack Overflow’s community website has been dropping since the beginning of 2022. There is, of course, also the option of the Cyrus ONE Chromecast. The aptX Bluetooth is very well implemented on the Cyrus and sounds superb, so that could be an alternative to in-built streaming. The Cyrus is not bright - it's very nicely balanced and it also usefully adapts to the impedance of the speakers being used. I have both here, and they are both very capable amplifiers. Neither the Brio or Cyrus ONE HD have in-built streaming functionality. I'm not an audiophile but I am looking for better quality sound (both TV and music) and I also want to get the best for my budget. At the moment I only have a Bose Sound bar in the lounge for both TV and streaming music to. My use will be both TV watching/listening as well as streaming from my Spotify playlists. The mid sized amp is needed because it has to fit inside the TV cabinet - max width 40cm. But I want to compare the bigger brothers for each. The Dali won hands down - clear, beautiful sound compared to a more dull, almost muffled, sound from the LSX. I originally started looking at lower priced active speakers and, not being able to afford the KEF LS50 Wireless, I tested the KEF LSX against the Dali Oberon C. The KEFs also review well and I'm keen to compare it to the Dalis. Now, some explanation on my selection.my wife says she is not that interested and happy for me to decide but at the same time asking for a discreet speaker size!! Hence the compact Dali Menuets which review really well and look stunning. They'll need to work for TV and Spotify streaming in a large lounge. Other options I will try to test are the Bluesound Powernode and the Rega Brio.Īny advice on what to look out for? I'm reading the Cyrus is bright and so might not pair well with the bright Dalis? As I can't test them at the same time as the Cyrus, any advice on the Powernode or Brio as alternatives, and what pairs well with what? I'll be looking to arrange a home demo if I like what I hear and if I can also get a Brio or Powernode to compare. The demo is this week and the retailer will pair them with the Cyrus One HD - their only mid sized option within my budget. After looking at reviews and checking out some of the relevant threads I've decided to demo the Dali Menuets (possibly also the Dali Opticon 2s for comparison) and the KEF LS50 Metas. Would you share your experience/which amplifier you got? Do you also have a similar setup of using the pre-outs of your receiver with an external amplifier.I'm looking for speakers and a mid sized streaming amp for my lounge (6x5m with high ceiling) with a budget of up to £2000. I am considering getting the Bluesound Powernode N330. As I understand after some research, connecting the devices mentioned above to the receiver wouldn't be possible, so the best option would be to keep the receiver and use its pre-outs to use an external amplifier. I'm seriously considering getting an external amplifier to max out the potential of my speakers. I got that receiver on a very good sale last week and I am using it to connect my TV, Xbox and record player, so I don't think I'm returning it (unless an amplifier would allow me to have all these connections at the same time). U/taudep I just acquired the Cinema 70s receiver (successor of the Marantz NR1711) and I noticed my LS50 Meta speakers don't sound as good as I imagine they are supposed to sound. I wanted a more integrated feature set for now. I also had a Musical Fidelity 5si on my short list that I actually liked better, but was missing: 1) headphone output 2) a/b speaker selector 3) a DAC and 4) dirac/blueos - but this wasn't a deal breaker for me since it could have been added externally. Here's a link to where I talk about more where I came from with the AVR + AMP setup: Maybe the C389/C399 is worth the upgrade, though, because of the different amp technology in use?Īnyway, I'm really happy I was able to afford the C399 and have an end game system for the foreseeable future.ĮDIT: BTW, I bought way more power in this amp than I currently need, but figured if I move to full floor standers, or move to a larger place, I'll be all set. That said, I'd probably not get the full-blown C399 and wait either for the C389 to come out, or look more into the currently marked down C388. I was running with a AVR -> AMP before, and I can't believe how much a real amp driving the metas changed the sound. I recently upgraded to a NAD C399, with Dirac/BluOS. |
